This past Tuesday, July 19, South Bay Art Association members, friends, and family met at the Cheese Patch on Main Street in Patchogue, NY to celebrate the newest group exhibition, “Form & Figure.”

What is Figure Drawing?

Figure or Life Drawing is the practice of sketching the human form. This particular fine art study has tremendous roots in the current art community as well as in history. Many great masters of the arts such as Leonardo da Vinci, Henri Matisse, and Mary Cassatt (amongst many others!) have studied or practiced figure drawing throughout their careers.

The act of figure drawing is often done with a live model who is standing or sitting in poses that emphasize the figure. The process of drawing people or models from observation, helps the artist grow skills in capturing the human body’s muscular system, textures, and postures.

SBAA Call for Artists

A call for artists was put out by the SBAA Exhibitions Committee and South Bay Art Association’s Members did not disappoint!

Being a juried show, the Exhibition Committee set forth with a very difficult task to curate a collection of work that best encompassed the theme of the show. At the end, an elegant and diverse group of art was created featuring artwork by…
