This past Tuesday, July 19, South Bay Art Association members, friends, and family met at the Cheese Patch on Main Street in Patchogue, NY to celebrate the newest group exhibition, “Form & Figure.”
What is Figure Drawing?
Figure or Life Drawing is the practice of sketching the human form. This particular fine art study has tremendous roots in the current art community as well as in history. Many great masters of the arts such as Leonardo da Vinci, Henri Matisse, and Mary Cassatt (amongst many others!) have studied or practiced figure drawing throughout their careers.
The act of figure drawing is often done with a live model who is standing or sitting in poses that emphasize the figure. The process of drawing people or models from observation, helps the artist grow skills in capturing the human body’s muscular system, textures, and postures.
Hot Summer Days and Cool Artist Receptions!
The heatwave did not stop artists and art lovers alike from coming down to Tuesday night’s reception!
Many admired the artwork and discussed various types of styles of figure drawing seen, the mediums used, and also SBAA’s Sketch Club that features models and figure drawing!
Don’t worry if you missed the reception, this grouping of work will be up for viewing and sale until the end of July at The Cheese Patch!
