About the artist

Laurie Samara-Schlageter, is a self taught artist residing in East Islip.

Inspired by her surroundings, she has a sensitive awareness of the simplicity in nature-things that are often overlooked or taken for granted.

Her location paintings, in acrylic or watercolor express the beauty and simplicity of nature, as well as her Asian brush paintings. Acrylic plein air, and still life paintings are rendered with a variety of colors.

Exhibiting her work in outdoor art festivals and galleries for more than thirty years, she has earned awards internationally and locally in various mediums.

Laurie is also an active member of several Long Island art organizations.

“To observe all the wonders of life around me, and express the essence of what I see
using quick spontaneous strokes, is an exhilarating experience. My paintbrush dances with emotion. My goal is to express my inner creativity, painting what I see not only visually, but also what I see within my heart.
