Celebrating Artistic Expression: The 4th Annual Plein Air Event by South Bay Art Association

The South Bay Art Association proudly hosted its 4th Annual Plein Air Event from July 13 to July 25, bringing together a vibrant community of artists across all mediums to capture the beauty and essence of the Patchogue, Bellport, and Brookhaven areas. This cherished event celebrates the tradition of painting "en plein air" (in the open air), allowing artists to immerse themselves in their surroundings and translate the stunning landscapes and scenes of these locales into unique works of art.

A Canvas of Creativity:

Throughout the event, artists spread out across the scenic environments of Patchogue, Bellport, and Brookhaven, finding inspiration in the picturesque vistas, charming streets, and serene waters. Each artist's interpretation brought a fresh perspective, reflecting their personal connection to the landscape and showcasing a diverse range of styles and techniques. The diversity of mediums—from watercolor and oil to pastel and mixed media—enriched the event, highlighting the versatility and creativity of our artistic community.

Exhibition at Bellport Day:

The culmination of this artistic journey was celebrated at Bellport Day on July 27, where the created artworks were exhibited for the community to admire. Bellport Day provided a perfect backdrop for this exhibition, drawing locals and visitors alike to appreciate the talent and hard work of our participating artists. The event fostered a sense of community, with attendees engaging in conversations with the artists and gaining insight into the creative process behind each piece.

Acknowledgments:

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Blick Artist Materials, whose generous sponsorship made this event possible. Their support not only provided essential resources for the artists but also underscored their commitment to nurturing the arts within our community.

A special thank you goes out to our esteemed judges, Peter Menderson (artist/sculptor), Jay Schuck (Art Historian), and Michael Loguerico (Brookhaven Town Councilman, District 4) whose expertise and discerning eyes added an element of prestige to the event. Their task of selecting standout pieces from such a diverse and talented pool of artists was undoubtedly challenging, and we are grateful for their dedication and contribution to the success of this event.

A Heartfelt Thanks to Our Volunteers: This event would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Linda Lee, our Plein Air Committee Chair, and the dedicated volunteers who worked behind the scenes. Their commitment, enthusiasm, and hard work ensured the smooth running and success of the event. From organizing logistics to assisting artists and engaging with the community, their contributions were invaluable.

Looking Forward:

The 4th Annual Plein Air Event has once again highlighted the vibrant artistic spirit of our community. The South Bay Art Association remains committed to fostering opportunities for artists to express their creativity and share their work with the world. We look forward to many more events that bring together artists and art lovers, continuing to build a strong, supportive, and inspiring artistic community.
